By the rivers of Babylon

by Eli Sigelman

I was walking streets in town
Brown sugar, dirty gown
I was loosing stars at dawn
Married bride took off her crown.

I was planting trees in town
Making holes in swampy grounds
Jet above was chasing sound
Who needs bride without crown?

I was painting walls in town
Little people played around
Songs and bells in mixed crowd
Married bride was crying loud.

I was watching girls in town
Lips and hips and looks are down
Boys are busy fighting doubts
Married bride is found drowned.

I was cleaning tombs in town
Tried to heal infected wounds
Time as pack of fastest hounds
Sped away and run unbound.

By the rivers of Babylon
There we sat down and we wept
When we remembered Zion.

עַל נַהֲרוֹת, בָּבֶל–שָׁם יָשַׁבְנו, גַּם-בָּכִינוּ: בְּזָכְרֵנוּ, אֶת-צִיּוֹן

Psalms 137-1
